Nov. 12, 2005

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida volleyball team capped its home season on Saturday afternoon the way it traditionally has in recent years - with a victory.

Four Lady Ospreys tallied double figures in kills, led by Magen Wood's 15, and UNF hit .331 as a team in racing to a 3-0 win over Stetson (30-24, 30-28, 30- 24). The victory was UNF's 15th in its last 19 matches and its fifth consecutive this season. It sets UNF (19-9) up with a chance to post its eighth- consecutive 20-win season if the Lady Ospreys can win at South Florida in their season finale on Wednesday.

"We ended the season on a good note at home," UNF head coach Bryan Bunn said. "We have been playing a lot better of late and we did so again today. Now we'll look to finish the season strong at South Florida."

Jennifer King added 14 kills and 10 digs for her third straight double-double, while Emily Kohler added 11 kills and Allison O'Neill 10. Freshman setter Heather Kendrick paced the attack with 49 assists.

Gina Iacona and Rebecca Orzechowicz led Stetson with 10 kills each.

UNF took control in the opening game behind a blistering attack, hitting .412 and getting seven kills from O'Neill. UNF trailed 2-1 but raced out to a 12-5 lead from there and never looked back.

In game two, Stetson worked its way to a 17-16 lead before the Lady Ospreys grabbed control with four straight points to move ahead 20-16. UNF led 28-21 after that before Stetson made one final charge, cutting its deficit to 29-28. Wood finished the match on the next play, however, giving the Lady Ospreys the win.

The Lady Ospreys never trailed in game three.

Saturday's match marked the final home event for seniors Kelly Kazmierczak and Sally Nobles, who were honored before the match.
