2009-10 Basketball Season Ticket Brochure
University of North Florida Director of Athletics Lee Moon announced on July 24, 2009 that the Athletics Department has restructured and reorganized the Osprey Club.
Established in 1982, the Osprey Club is the fundraising-arm of the University of North Florida Athletics Department. With all UNF student-athletes in mind, the Osprey Club provides support for student-athlete scholarships, athletic facilities, sport-specific operating funds through direct donations and special events.
The changes include the formation of an executive committee to oversee the Osprey Club and the naming of former UNF men’s basketball coach Matt Kilcullen as assistant athletic director for development/Osprey Club. In addition, an advisory committee of community leaders will be developed to provide advice and guidance to the Osprey Club.
The 11-member executive committee will be led by Osprey Club President Jim McCarthy, a marketing executive and long time supporter of UNF Athletics. The other board members are: Dave Birkelbach (Project Manager - Elkins Constructors Inc.), Joby Birr (Attorney – The law Firm of Gunster; past president - University of North Florida Alumni Association), Dr. Buster Browning (physician), Brian Carroll (Director, Broadcasting and Programming - PGA TOUR), Brett Diamon (Construction Manager – PPI Construction Management), John Hayt (retired businessman and longtime supporter of UNF Athletics), Heather Patterson (Coordinator, Governmental Affairs - Office of the President, University of North Florida), Sid Roberson (Director, Financial Advisor - UBS Financial Services Inc.), Doug Rogalski (Player Agent/Advisor - Sports One Athlete Management), and Bruce Taylor (CEO, Chairman - Taylor Engineering, Inc.). Moon and Kilcullen are ex-officio members of the board.
“The changes with the Osprey Club and the hiring of Matt Kilcullen are important steps in the growth of the organization,” said Moon. “The Osprey Club is vital to the commitment of providing financial resources for scholarships for our student-athletes and making their UNF experience a great one.”
Osprey Club donors consist of former athletes, UNF alumni, families of athletes, corporate partners, foundations, UNF faculty and staff, coaches and other friends of the University. Donors to the Osprey Club partner with UNF to help create champions, not only on the playing field, but also in the classroom and for life.
“This is an exciting time for UNF and our entire community,” said McCarthy. “We restructured the Osprey Club to meet the needs of a Division I program. The Osprey Club provides the entire community with a vehicle to support our student-athletes in the classroom and on the playing field.”
These announcements come on the heels of UNF’s July 8 announcement that it has received official confirmation from the NCAA that the reclassification to Division I active membership is complete, effective beginning with the 2009-10 academic year.
“This is a very exciting time for UNF Athletics and I am very fortunate to be a part of a young, up and coming Division I program,” said Kilcullen. “I look forward to the challenge of growing the Osprey Club.”
