JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida track and field teams will open up the outdoor portion of their 2013 campaign in the friendly confines of Hodges Stadium this weekend, as they host the UNF Spring Break Invitational presented by Radisson on March 1-2.
The Ospreys are fresh off a sterling showing at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships last weekend, where they captured seven gold medals en route to a pair of top-five finishes.
“We're really looking forward to this weekend,” Head Coach Jeff Pigg said. “The first time you can get outside and compete on an outdoor track is always exciting. It's a great chance to see people in different events than the indoor meets and see where everyone stands.”
UNF was led this past weekend on the women's side by junior Brianna Frazier, who captured gold in both the 200m and 400m for the third consecutive year. Freshman Lindsey Enders also won the pole vault, breaking her own school record in the event en route to the gold medal.
For the men, junior David Shepherd made it a clean sweep in the pole vault, winning the men's portion of the event for the third straight season, while senior Cameron Dickerson took gold in the mile and junior Dante Bouldin won the 60m hurdles.
Brief interviews with last weekend's winners can be found below.
This weekend will play host to both high school and collegiate athletes, with events interspersed throughout the event. Heat sheets for both sections, as well as a complete meet schedule can be found on the attached PDFs.
“We're excited to be running at home and getting our outdoor season started,” Pigg said. “Obviously, we're trying to be running our best in May at the end of the season, but this is a great meet against some good competition, so we're looking forward to it.”
Frazier will be the sole Osprey traveling to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational. She will be running in the 200m and 400m in an effort to qualify for the 2013 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Live results for the event will be available at HalfMileTiming.com.
