GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida track and field team grabbed victories in distance events on both the men's and women's side at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Saturday evening.
For the women, senior Erin Nixon took first place in the mile (5:01.74), just ahead of classmate Brooke Maumann (5:08.70), who finished third and recorded a new personal-best time.
Junior Shelby Kittrell also took home a gold medal in the 5,000m (17:42.65), while junior Meggie Emons (17:55.17) grabbed runner-up honors.
Senior Christina King took second in the pole vault (11-7.75) for UNF, and Brittany Wagoner (11-1.5) finished fifth. Sophomore Brianna Frazier, the reigning A-Sun Freshman of the Year, took runner-up honors in the 200m (24.37), while Alessandra Valdes (2:21.08) and Alyssa Brandt (2:21.33) finished third and fourth in the 800m.
On the men's side, junior James Post grabbed first in the mile (4:17.99), leading senior Cameron Dickerson (4:19.51, 2nd), sophomore Sean White (4:25.23, 4th) and sophomore Chris Haynes (4:26.52, 5th). Post also took third in the 800m (1:59.05).
Sophomore David Shepherd finished in second in the pole vault (16-4.75), while the 4x400m relay team of junior Nick Squillace, Shepherd, junior Justin Mims and junior Aaron Tillman also grabbed runner-up honors in their event (3:21.65).

The UNF track teams will return to Gainesville for their next meet when they run in the Gator Invite at the University of Florida on January 22.
