Cross Country Teams Head to Seminole Invitational
9/22/2011 3:44:00 PM | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida cross country teams will compete for the first time in two weeks on Friday evening when they travel to the Seminole Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla.
There will be 17 teams competing in the meet on Friday, with the women's 5k race beginning at 6:20 p.m. and the men's 8k starting at 6:45.
“We're excited because I think it's a great chance to evaluate, as a team, how we look as we move into the main part of our schedule,” Head Coach Mark VanAlstyne said. “It will give us an indication of how we need to progress as the season goes on.”
The meet will give the Ospreys a chance to run against teams such as Auburn, from the Southeastern Conference, and Florida State, an Atlantic Coast Conference school, and to see how they fare in a large meet.
The women's team is coming off a victory at the Covered Bridge Open two weeks ago in Boone, N.C. UNF, picked in the preseason to repeat as Atlantic Sun Conference champions, maintained their sixth place position in the South Region of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Weekly Poll on Monday.
FSU is ranked first in the South Region and Auburn currently sits at 14th.
The men's team, fifth-place finishers at the Covered Bridge Open, still sits in tenth place in the South Region of the USTFCCCA Weekly Poll. Florida State and Auburn sit at first and 14th, respectively, in the men's poll as well.
