Cross Country Wraps Up Regular Season with Top-Ten Finishes

Panorama Farms Invitational Results-Women's Race
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of North Florida men's cross country team took first place in their second consecutive meet on Friday evening, claiming victory at the UCF Invitational. The women's team, which split its squad between two seperate meets, took seventh place at UCF and fifth place at the Panorama Farms Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
The men, who won the FLRunners.com Invitational in their last race, captured another victory in Orlando by putting seven runners in the top 15 of the 92 runners. Senior Mike Strasser (25:17.59) led the way again for the Ospreys, finishing the 8,000-meter race in third place.
Senior Cameron Dickerson (25:37.11), sophomore Chris Haynes (25:37.48) and junior James Post (25:48.63) grabbed fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, while sophomore Constantine Fotopoulos (26:08.60) took ninth to give UNF five competitors in the top ten. Sophomore Sean White (26:22.66) and senior Josh Brown (26:33.34) finished 12th and 15th to round out the Ospreys' scoring.
The team effort opened a length gap between UNF and the field. The Ospreys scored just 30 points, compared to runner-up Florida Gulf Coast's 72 and third-place Florida A&M's 75. Other conference opponents included Stetson (7th, 220) and Jacksonville (10th, 279). Twelve teams participated in the meet.
One half of the women's team also competed at the UCF Invitational, grabbing seventh place out of 17 teams. A pair of top-ten individuals paced the Ospreys on the 6,000-meter course, as senior Brooke Baumann (23:24.44) and sophomore Allison Spiegel (23:27.25) took ninth and tenth place, respectively.
Freshman Alyssa Brandt (24:17.46) was next for UNF in 30th place, followed by fellow freshmen Savannah Bradley (25:13.25) in 51st and Rachel Miller (25:20.01) in 53rd.
The other portion of the women's squad competed at the Panorama Farm Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., finishing with 129 points to take fifth place out of nine against some of the east coast's upper-level teams.
Senior Erin Nixon (22:07.81) was the highest-finishing Osprey, grabbing 15th in the field of 86 competitors, followed by junior Shelby Kittrell (22:26.69) in 22nd and junior Meggie Emons (22:41.69) in 26th. Junior Ecaterina Gheorghiu (23:00.49) took 31st for UNF, while freshman Elle Baker (23:39.03) and senior Kayla Conrad (24:13.63) finished 47th and 56th, respectively, to round out the Ospreys' evening.
The next meet for both teams will be the Atlantic Sun Championships in Nashville, Tenn. The race will be held on Oct. 29 and will go off at 10 a.m.
