Golfers Finish Third At USF Invitational, Phelan And Dale Both In Top 10

The Ospreys were one of just three teams to shoot under par in the final round, firing a 3-under-par, but it wasn't enough to catch leader Florida Southern who shot 5-under for the day and 12-under (852) for the tournament, eight strokes ahead of UNF. North Florida ended at 4-under (860) for the tournament, three strokes behind second-place
North Florida had two golfers finish in the top 10, led by freshman Kevin Phelan who finished tied for 4th with a 5-under 211 (74-70-67). His 5-under in the final round was tied for the second best round of the day. Sophomore Sean Dale ended tied for 8th after firing 3-under (68-74-71=213) for the tournament.
For UNF, senior J.C. Horne shot a final round 73 to end tied for 19th at even-par 216 (72-71-73), while sophomore Joe Byun ended tied for 50th at 223 (+7, 75-74-74) and sophomore Kevin Aylwin tied for 61st at 225 (+9, 72-76-77).
In addition to the host school, the
“Kevin (Phelan) played real well today,” said UNF head coach Scott Schroeder. “The team finish was not as good as we had hoped to play. We did not putt real well this week.”
