I'm Eric Scott, volleyball media relations guru for UNF, and welcome to my live blog for today's match against Jacksonville.
Everyone get ready to rumble, it's time for the second SunTrust River City Rumble match between the Lady Ospreys and Jacksonville. UNF won the first meeting of the season 3-1 on Sept. 9 at UNF Arena, led by Kaley Read's 16 kill performance. The Dolphins have gone 11-4 since that contest, so they will be tough to take down tonight.
The team is warming up right now and looks pumped up to take down their cross-town rival. For live updates on the match, check back here. You can also watch the match live on ASun.TV.
6:50 p.m.: The Lady Ospreys are going with the same starting lineup they used the previous two matches: Shawna Metcalf, Madie Belvin, Agata Dawidowicz, Kaley Read, Chelsea Rabe, Danielle Lerch and Lizzy Manno at libero. UNF is wearing blue uniforms.
7:11 p.m.: The Lady Ospreys have fought back to tie it at six after falling behind 3-0. Danielle Lerch has secured the last three points on a kill and two straight aces.
7:16 p.m.: This is shaping up to be a typical exciting SunTrust River City Rumble showdown, with each team trading leads. The Lady Ospreys took a 12-9 lead, but JU has outscored UNF 4-1 over the last five points. JU is looking strong at hitting the right angles right now.
7:22 p.m.: Jacksonville holds a 21-16 and is on an 8-3 run. The Lady Ospreys just called a time out to make adjustments to the hard-hitting of the Dolphins. UNF is also having a tough time getting over the strong block of JU.
7:26 p.m.: The Lady Ospreys are putting up a strong fight right now and won't go quietly despite being up against a set point. UNF has scored the last three points and trails 24-20. With the momentum in their corner right now, the Lady Ospreys have a good shot at pulling off the improbable.
7:28 p.m.: JU just sealed the first set victory, 25-20, on a kill from Abby Gruenbacher. Kaley Read was playing in the back right and was inches away from scooping up the dig. JU hit .307 compared to UNF's mark of .207. Read is UNF's kills leader with four, while Sara Bendorf has seven for the Dolphins.
7:31 p.m.: The Lady Ospreys are ready to go for the second set. The starters are the same as from the first set (Metcalf, Belvin, Dawidowicz, Read, Rabe, Lerch and Manno at libero).
7:34 p.m.: UNF got out to a quick 3-1 second set lead when Read ripped three kills, but the Dolphins have come back to tie it at four and have the sideout.
7:38 p.m.: There is currently a little confusion with the score. The referee originally called UNF for a rotation error and thought the Lady Ospreys had used the wrong substitution. No harm, no foul, though as everything was cleared up and the Lady Ospreys were not called for the violation after all.
7:39 p.m.: After the confusion was cleared up, UNF went up 9-6. It was highlighted by a booming block by Rasmussen and Lerch.
7:42 p.m.: The Lady Ospreys just took their largest lead of the match at 14-9 on a big ace from Dawidowicz. UNF just extended it on a block from Mefcalf and Read, followed by another ace from Dawidowicz. JU just took a time out. The score is currently 16-9 in favor of UNF.
7:45 p.m.: Another deadly ace from the nation's aces per set leader, Dawidowicz, just helped the Lady Ospreys to go up 19-9. They look prime to close it out and go to the locker room with momentum on their side.
7:52 p.m.: What a difference a set makes! UNF was in complete control of the second set and won it on a monstrous kill by Rasmussen. The final score was 25-15. UNF was much more in sync with their passing and was in the right spot more often than not to block JU's attack. The Lady Ospreys had two big blocks in the set along. Rasmussen was clutch, ripping off five kills. Madie Belvin has 12 assists so far for UNF.
8:02 p.m.: It's time for the third set. The Lady Ospreys are certainly fired up after having such a strong second set. The starters are the same from the previous two sets.
8:13 p.m. This has been a heated third set so far. JU went up by as many as four in the early going, but the Lady Ospreys have battled back to cut the Dolphin lead to 14-11. Read has four kills in the set so far.
8:18 p.m.: JU has taken advantage of its home-court advantage and has stolen the momentum. The Dolphins are currently on a 7-1 run and lead 19-12.
8:23 p.m.: Even after a UNF time out, the Dolphins were able to keep their spark and seal the third set victory, 25-15. Read is up to a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Belvin now has 19 assists. Dawidowicz has four aces.
8:33 p.m.: This has been quite an intense set so far. The Lady Ospreys just took a 10-9 lead on a kill from Read that was blocked out of bounds by JU. Read has three kills so far in this set.
8:37 p.m.: JU has now taken a 15-12 lead. The Dolphins are currently on a 6-2 run. Sara Bendorf has been hitting her spots well for the Dolphins, which has UNF defenders scrambling around and making it tough for the Lady Ospreys to set up their attack.
8:40 p.m.: Funny how quickly things can change in volleyball. Read just destroyed the ball down the right line of JU, giving the Lady Ospreys a 17-16 lead.
8:42 p.m.: Dawidowicz just ripped a kill down the heart of JU's defense, sending the Dolphins into retreat with a time out. UNF now has a 19-16 lead.
8:49 p.m.: How quickly the tides turn. The Dolphins were able to come out on top of an exciting match by closing out the win with a 6-3 run to win the match 3-1.
Thank you for checking out the blog. UNF will be back in action at 7p.m. on Halloween night, Friday, Oct. 31, against East Tennesee State at UNF Arena. Live stats and live video will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
